Boko Haram attacks Chibok again, kills 12, steals food, medicine

The Chibok community, headquarters of Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, where 200 students were abducted ten years ago has experienced another attack by Boko Haram insurgents, who struck on new year day.

Penpushing reports that during the violent attack which was followed with sporadic shooting by the bandits recorded death of at least 12 people, as well as carting away food and medicine by the attackers

The residents who narrowly escaped disclosed that many other people were injured in the attack, adding that the terrorists raided many homes to steal food items and equally forced their way to the General Hospital in the area to cart away medicine.

Penpushing further reports that Borno State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Nahun Daso, confirmed the attack on Wednesday, adding that a combined team of security operatives were trailing the suspected Boko Haram members to their hideouts.

‘The deadly attack was carried out on January 1st, between the hours of 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm where 12 residents of the community in Chibok were killed and two persons seriously injured’, the police spokesperson stated

‘The suspected Boko Haram members during the attack had stolen some properties from the communities and escaped to an unknown destination into the forest. Presently a combined team of security operatives comprising soldiers and the vigilante are combing the forest in the area to counter them”, Daso said.

Penpushing also reports that a resident of Chibok town, identified as Baba Barka while speaking called on need for the security operatives to be more proactive in protecting the community and equally appealed to the state and federal governments to secure Chibok communities by bringing military personnel to stay permanently in the area.

‘The insurgents stole our animals, foodstuff and other important materials. They also stole medicine from our general hospital. They came ridding on about 20 or more motorcycles heavily armed with sophisticated weapons where they started shooting sporadically killing and maiming our people. At the end of the attack, we discovered that many people were killed and scores of our people wounded’, Barka said.
