Agitation to disrupt 2023 elections in Nigeria holds no water, says police

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba on Monday said the agitation by some groups to disrupt the forthcoming 2023 general elections in Nigeria, does not hold water assuring that the plot will not see light of the day.

Penpushing reports that, Baba made this known while declaring open the Police Public Relations Officers conference with the theme, ’strengthening Strategic Communication Towards Police Reforms, Security and Integrity of 2023 Election’, held in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.

The police boss represented by his Deputy, Babatunde Kokumo emphasized that, the agitation was an empty threat, stressing that despite all fear emanating from the groups threat, the elections will hold without rancor

Penpushing further reports that, he disclosed that towards the successful conduct of free and fair elections, the police is in synergy with other security agencies in the country, to silence any individuals or groups working towards truncating democracy in the country

‘I want to use this opportunity and medium  to assure that the 2023 general elections will hold, inspite of false impression in some quarters to cause disruption of the exercise, Nigeria Police Force is in synergy with other security agencies in ensuring transparent  and credible elections’, he emphasized

Penpushing also reports that, he said police did it before, citing examples of Delta, Anambra, Ekiti and Osun State, pointing out that inspite of the similar threat, before the polls, the police were up to the task in ensuring crisis free elections

‘’We have done it before, there were palpable fear in Delta, Anambra, Ekiti and Osun State before the elections, but we recorded success. I want to say that in our thinking, strategy we remain focus. There is no cause to fear about the 2023 elections’, he stressed

Penpushing reports that, on the role of the Police Public Relations Officer, Baba noted that, they should always be good communicators, stressing that the work of image makers of organisations and establishment goes beyond speaking grammar

The 2 -day conference is well attended by all the Police Public Relations Officers across the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 17 Zonal Police Relations Officers and Liaison Officers of Police Formations as well as chieftains of other security agencies, media executives and other stakeholders

Penpushing further reports that, National Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan in his goodwill message lauded the Nigerian Police for organizing the conference,adding that it came at the right time as the country gears towards elections

The Chairman  called on all image makers of the police across the country to extend to the Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC), the same hand of fellowship for a strong and meaningful community based partnership,assuring that the committee under his leadership will continue to work for a safe and secures nation

Penpushing reports that, notable stakeholders at the conference include: Oloye Lekan Alabi (Maaye of Ibadanland), Alhaji Mogaji  Ibrahim Olaniyan (National Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee), Demola Baabalola (Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council) and Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedej i(Founder Penpushing Media) among others

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, earlier in his welcome address explained that, the conference was designed to further engage and broaden knowledge of the police image makers ahead of the 2023 general elections and beyond

Penpushing also reports that, he said was optimistic that the conference will have positive effect on the work and activities of the beneficiaries, while serving the country, and even after leaving the service, stressing that role of public relations officers cannot be sideline in scheme of things

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police at the ceremony presented commendation letters to some deserving Public Relations Officers of some Command, who were found exemplary in their duties, while there was goodwill messages and presentation of conference papers
