Organ harvesting allegation: London court confirms alleged victim, Nwamini is an adult

The Westminster Magistrate Court in the United Kingdom on Thursday confirmed that David Nwamini (Ukpo), the alleged organ harvesting victim in the case involving former Nigerian Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, is   an adult contrary to his(Nwamini) claim that he is 15 year old.

Penpushing reports that, the magistrate affirmed this during the appearance of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, arraigned for alleged trafficking of the boy to harvest his kidney for their ailing daughter

The appearance of the Ekeremadus will be the third time, having earlier appeared in the London court on June 23, following their arrest by the Metropolitan Police on June 21, 2022, while in the previous court hearing ,the prosecutors, maintained that  Nwamini was 15 and was coerced into donating his kidney to the Ekweremadus.

Penpushing further reports that, the court while ruling declared that  Nwamini was not a minor, and also ordered that the Ekweremadus remain in the custody of the Metropolitan  Police till August 4, when their bail application is to be heard.

The Nigerian Senator and his wife, it is recalled   had insisted that  Nwamini was 21, explaining that  they had filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city, to obtain an order to compel relevant authorities to release relevant records of the purported organ donor to back their claim about his age.

Penpushing also reports that, the Nigerian court amended its earlier order ordering the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to release Nwamini’s biodata information to the former Deputy Senate President.

The judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, ruled on Wednesday that instead of releasing Nwamini’s biodata information directly to the Ekweremadus as earlier ordered, it should be released to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) for onward transmission to the United Kingdom.

Penpushing reports that the 60 year old Nigerian Senator, and his 55 year old wife, face charges of conspiring to traffic a person for organ harvesting in violation of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, while the London Attorney General, Suella Braverman, had given approval to the Westminster magistrate to hear the couple’s case.

The Attorney General also approved the transfer of the case to the Central Criminal Court in United Kingdom, while it is also recalled that Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Adamu Bulkachuwa, led a Senate delegation to the court.

Penpushing also reports that, former President of the Senate; Senator David Mark, former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, and a delegation from the Nigeria High Commission, were reported to be in attendance at the court.
