United Nations Women Media Partners Conference holds in Abuja
The United Nations (UN) Women have concluded arrangements for its maiden media partners conference scheduled to hold on Monday December 4, 2023, aimed at bringing together United Nations (UN) Women Media Partners, who are working to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
Penpushing reports that the conference will take place at United Nations (UN) House, UN House Wing A, second floor United Nations (UN) House Building, Plot 617/618 Diplomatic Drive, Central Business District, Abuja Nigeria.
The conference will equally assess the extent of media’s effort to address inequality and gender-based violence in Nigeria and proffer strategy for improved media action for equal opportunity and ending violence against women and girls.

Penpushing further reports that the conference which starts from 8am is part of the 16 Days of Activism 2023 activities, noting that 16 Days of Activism against violence against women is celebrated every year to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls across the world.

‘The campaign runs from November 25 to December 10 of every year. It was first commemorated at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991, and it is used as an organising strategy by individuals and organisations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
Penpushing also reports that the theme for this year is “UNITE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls”, while the campaign calls on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women.
The media professionals from across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria have been selected for the country to discuss and strategize ways to enhance gender-sensitive reporting in the Nigerian media landscape, especially in addressing violence against women and girls in Nigeria
Penpushing reports that objectives include promote gender-responsive reporting among media professionals in Nigeria, examine the role of the media in preventing VAWG, engage in critical discussions on the role of media in shaping public perception of gender issues and addressing harmful social norms, share best practices and case studies of gender-sensitive reporting and develop actionable strategies to measure gender-responsive reporting in Nigeria.
