BUHARI SACKS BANIRE AS ASSET MANAGEMENT CORPORATION OF NIGERIA CHAIRMAN

The Senate had in August passed a bill that seeks to amend the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) Act, while the amended section 10 of the Act stipulates that there shall be “a part-time Chairman who shall be a Deputy Governor in the Central Bank of Nigeria to be nominated by the Central Bank of Nigeria.’’

Penpushing further reports that,  Banire’s removal comes  after he was appointed in July 2018, about 17 months ago and was only confirmed in October of the same year, and prior to his appointment  Banire, a lawyer, served as a national legal adviser for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) boss was suspended in 2017 by his ward-Ward C, Ilasamaja, Mushin, Lagos State for alleged anti-party activities during the 2017 local government elections in the state.

Penpushing further reports that, the national leadership of the party, however, overruled the suspension arguing that only the National Executive Committee (NEC) has the power to suspend a national officer, and late last year, Banire was summoned by his ward  over alleged “anti-party activities and misappropriation of campaign materials and logistics” ,but ignored the summon.

The political crisis made  all three Lagos Senators to reject his nomination as Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON)  chairman in 2018,just as asource informed that,the new boss of the agency is expected to be confirmed by the Senate within the week.
