Tribute to Iyalode Alaba Lawson: A Giant in the Sun of Africa
To pay a tribute to this woman, whom I fondly call Iyalode of Iyalodes, comes with a heavy heart. An Enigma, a versatile, erudite scholar. An emphatic leader, a fashionista, a disciplinarian, and a global entrepreneur. Iyalode knew no tribe; she could not care where you came from but recognized talents and hard work and promoted them at every opportunity. She left a legacy for women, men, and children.
Death, where is thy sting? You have taken her body, but her spirit you could not take; it lives on!
Her memory will forever live in my heart, as I still remember how she honoured me as FEBWE matron and placed my face on the maiden edition of the magazine. Iyalode of Iyalodes, my birthday mate, as we celebrated January 18 and February 18 1951 together. Fare thee well, my dear sister. Sun Re oo.
May You continue to rest in the bossom of the Lord.
Mrs Chinwe Ezenwa FCILT, FNIS, FOSHA
