Tinubu sacks vice chancellor two months after appointment, dissolves governing council
The Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has sacked the Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja, Prof Aisha Maikudi, after two months of appointment and also dissolved the Governing Council of the University.
Penpushing reports that Maikudi was in December appointed by the governing council led by Air Vice Marshal Sadiq Kaita; after conducting the recruitment of a vice-chancellor, a selection process was rife with controversy with some members of the Joint University Senate and Council Committee accusing Kaita of imposing Maikudi.
The President in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, however, announced the sack and subsequently appointed Prof Patricia Manko, as Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six-month term, stressing that these changes are with immediate effect.
