Thieves steal N31million from sack in Katsina State Government House

The office of the Financial Controller of the Kastina State Government House has been broken into by thieves who stole N31 million kept in a sack, a replica of what happened in 2020 when N16 million was carted away from the office of the Secretary of Government of the State.

Penpushing reports that, the theft occurred at night on Sunday, July 31, 2022 when the Financial Controller, Salisu Batsari, was at the office, while as at the time of filing this report, the case was said to have been reported to the police

The government source who does not want his name mentioned said some officials were arrested in connection with the development but were subsequently released, but the Kastina State Police Command denied release of the suspects

“I didn’t see the CCTV footage but you know it’ll be part of what the police will request. But I heard that the footage revealed a man wearing a face mask getting into the office through a half-shut window’,the source said.

Penpushing further reports that, a media aide to the Governor, Al Amin Isa, confirmed the incident but kept mute on details of the stolen money, adding that the matter had been reported to the police and an investigation is being conducted.

The media aide said the state government and the police are investigating the theft and the culprits would be punished accordingly, recalling that when the first theft occurred, the government took measures to avert a reoccurrence but said the suspects are always cunning.

Penpushing also reports that, the Police Command Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isa, said immediately the police authority was informed the command quickly involved its men, and commenced investigation without delay

“When on Monday the State government found out about the theft, it quickly involved the police and an investigation was launched. The FC (financial controller) and some of his staff as well some security officers that were on duty on the fateful day were invited by the police for questioning,” he said.
