Sallah day tragedy: 10 die in Kwara state road accident

Ten persons were on Tuesday killed and eight others sustaining various degree of injuries in a lone accident in Oko Olowo/Oloru road at Iyemoja on the outskirts of Ilorin, Kwara State Capital,

Penpushing reports that, the accident said to be as a result of speed violation involved a black commercial Toyota Hiace bus with vehicle registration number LND 742 XK and eight persons.

The Sector Commander of the Kwara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Jonathan Owoade confirmed the crash and death of 10 persons in a lone crash,as well as the injured eight persons.

Penpushing further reports that, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) boss said the Olooru Unit Command   received a call at around 3:50pm  about a crash which occurred at Iyemoja on Oko Olowo-Olooru road axis.

“The Olooru Unit Command of the FRSC received a call at around 3:50pm today about a crash which occurred at Iyemoja on Oko Olowo-Olooru road axis. The crash was a lone fatal one involving a black commercial Toyota Hiace bus with vehicle registration number LND 742XK’,he said.

“18 persons were involved and unfortunately 10 of them lost their lives and eight other persons injured. The cause of the crash was as a result of speed violation,” the sector commander said.

Penpushing also reports that, Owoade  said the rescue team of the command  had rushed the injured victims  to Ayo Hospital Okolowo and the General Hospital Ilorin as at the time of filing this report.

The sector commander added that, in the same vein, the corpses have been deposited at the morgue in the General hospital,explaining that  the obstruction caused by the crash had been cleared with the assistance of the Nigeria Police Force.

Penpushing reports that, he, however, warned motorists against violating road safety guidelines, emphasizing  that the resultant effect If over speeding was road traffic crash,and advised that those behind the wheels and travelers shouls always take caution at all time.

“Slow and steady wins the race. The prayer of every traveller is to reach their destination, it does not matter how long it takes. Speed violation, fatigue driving and disrespect for traffic rules can cut such expectations short. May we not die untimely by our own hands” ,he said.
