The former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has won the ticket to represent the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Senatorial election from the Ogun East Senatorial District.
Penpushing reports that, Daniel won the election on Saturday having defeated other aspirants which include former Deputy Governor, Prince Segun, Adesegun Lekan Mustapha and Seyi Oduntan
The current Senator representing the Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Lekan Mustapha, who earlier showed interest to contest the primary, however, stepped down for Daniel popularly called “OGD”, while election was ongoing
Penpushing further reports that, the election results from the nine local government areas as officially announced has it that in Ijebu Ode; Daniel scored 53, Lekan Mustapha 2 votes, Remo North: Daniel 50, Ijebu East: Daniel 45, Lekan Mustapha: 1 votes Ikene:: Daniel 50 votes, Ogun Waterside: Daniel 49, Ijebu North: Daniel 43, Lekan Mustapha 6, Segun Adesegun recorded 6 votes, Odogbolu: Daniel 55, Lekan Mustapha 20, Sagamu: Daniel 69, Ijebu North East: Daniel 36 and Seyi Oduntan 11 votes
The elected candidate in his acceptance speech after the primary held at the local government headquarters in Itoro, Ijebu-Ode thanked all co-contestants, party leadership, delegates and other party members for considering him worth to represent the party.
Penpushing also reports that, Daniel assured that he would not disappoint the senatorial district, party, members and state as a whole as well as the electorate if elected at the general election, and called on party loyalists to work as united family
