Terrorists burn down market, abduct 24 residents in Katsina

Terrorists have set ablaze market, houses and abducted twenty-four persons when they launched violent attack on Gangara, a community in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, while seven victims were said to be receiving treatment in two hospitals as at the time of filing this report.

Penpushing reports that sources disclosed that during the attack the terrorists killed five of the residents, who were identified as women and children, as confirmed by the Gangara community head Aliyu Abubakar,

‘The terrorists launched the attack around 10 p.m. They started shooting from Sabon Garin Gangara, where they killed one person, to the main community, Gangara where four men were killed’, Abubakar said.

The community head who spoke to from the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina where he had led the wounded persons to, added that the terrorists went from the outer part of the community to the inner part, unchallenged, going from house to house.

‘We don’t know what was the motivation because it had been long that they last attacked us. But yesterday’s attack was terrible. Seven people got serious injuries and we have taken some to the orthopaedic and specialist hospital while others are here (Federal Teaching Hospital) receiving medical attention. They were selective of who to abduct but we still can’t say what the motivation is,” he said.

Penpushing further reports that the traditional ruler disclosed that the remains of the dead had been buried with the help of vigilante members, stating that the arrival of vigilante members stopped the carnage, noting that it could have been worse.

‘The vigilante members really helped us because when they came, they also started shooting at the terrorists. This morning (Friday) I was told that a helicopter (an air force jet) had gone to the community,” he said.

Penpushing also reports that the Katsina State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abubakar – Sadik Aliyu, as at the time of filing this report was yet to make any official statement about the  sad incident.
