Suspected herdsmen allegedly attack community in Ogun state, kill resident, injure three others

Suspected herdsmen on Friday allegedly attacked Elegun Mefa community along Boodo-Odeda road located in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State, killing one person and injured three others

Penpushing reports that, an eyewitness said the suspects on previous day arrived the community insisting to rear their cows in the farmland, which was vehemently opposed by the villagers, but returned following day to launch attack

The witness while narrating the incident said following sudden attack launched by the suspects, some vigilante members mobilized themselves to repel the attack, adding that it was in the process that the alleged herdsmen gunned down one of them.

Penpushing further reports that, three of the vigilante members sustained gunshot injuries, and that as at the time of filing this report, receiving treatment at undisclosed hospital, adding that the attackers managed to escape through bush path

‘Yes, it is herdsmen who killed one of our people. The sad incident happened at Elegun Mefa, a suburb of Boodo community. The herdsmen launched attack on the community, and some members of vigilante traced them, unfortunately they were caught up by the herdsmen, who rained bullets on them’, the witness said

‘Of the four of vigilante members who traced the herdsmen, one of them was shot dead, three of them sustained gunshot wound.  The herdsmen had previous day approached the community insisting to rear their cows on the farmland, which was opposed by the community’, he explained

‘These herdsmen, however, returned the following day and launched attack on the community, and this made some members of the vigilante in mobilizing themselves to repel the attack, and in the course of that, the herdsmen rained bullets on them, resulting in the death of one of them, while the suspects escaped through bush path’, he added

Penpushing also reports that, the witness as at the time of filing this report did not establish if the case has been reported at the police station, and when contacted the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said he was yet to be aware of the incident

The police spokesman, however, as at the time of contacting him by Penpushing media, said he would get back for a feedback, just as the community leadership said arrangements had already being put in place to monitor the situation
