Hundreds of students on Friday trooped out en mass, blocking the University of Ibadan-Mokola road in  protest against  the ongoing  and unresolved industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Penpushing reports that, it is recalled that Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had on February this year declared warning strike due to non-implementation of the agreement reached by the union and Nigerian Government in 2009, while after the expiration of the warning strike, the union recently, extended the strike by another 12 weeks.

The students who have been staying at home as a result of the industrial action on Friday organised a peaceful protest to show their grievances, and moved round some strategic locations in the ancient town to express their displeasure over the ugly development.

Penpushing further reports that one of the protesters, Solomon Emiola, a 200-level of the University of Ibadan(UI) while speaking  explained that the protest became necessary because they are tired of staying at home, pointing out the country leaders have continued to shut down their future.

The student added that, the mission of the protesting students was  to shut down the whole of Ibadan until their demand is met, while also in his own reaction former Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze, stated that the protest was to awaken the spirit of students whose rights are trampled upon by the government.

Penpushing also reports that, the former boss of the Trade Union Congress(TUC),  however emphasized  that the ongoing strike embarked upon by the university lecturers was due to negligence and failure of leadership.
