Speeding truck driver kills 13 students in Lagos state

A speeding driver on Tuesday allegedly caused the death of about 13 school children along Isheri road, a stone throw to Ojodu police station in Lagos state, after a truck reportedly suffered a brake failure and rammed into them

Penpushing reports that, an eyewitness account said the children were returning from school when the incident happened, adding that as at the time of filing this reports the exact number of casualties is yet to be ascertained.

The witness lamented that the truck driver after causing the havoc sped away from the scene, and was pursued to Ogba axis of Ikeja, apprehended and brought back to the police station, while angry youth vandalized the truck.

Penpushing further reports that, Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, while reacting to the sad development said the casualty figure as at the time of this report was yet to be confirmed.

The police spokesman said the command was on top of the situation, stressing that adequate policemen are on ground to maintain law and order, adding that situation is being professionally handled.”

Penpushing also reports following the ugly development businesses along the road were shut down while vehicular traffic is grounded, and in similar vein, police officers have barricaded their gates and are firing gunshots and tear gas canisters at intervals from inside the station.
