SOWORE TO SPEND MORE DAYS IN DETENTION AS COURT REFUSES TO GRANT APPLICATIONS
The Publisher of Sahara Reporters, who is presently in detention, had, on August 9, approached the court, seeking an order to vacate the ex parte order that gave the State Security Service (SSS) the legal backing to detain him for 45 days.
Penpushing further reports that Justice Taiwo Taiwo had, in a ruling on August 8 in an exparte application, ordered Sowore’s detention for the said period to enable the security operatives to carry out and conclude its investigation on allegations levied against him.
The Security Agency had also challenged the court order, on August 20,allowing it to detain Sowore for 45 days against its request of 90 days pending investigation, and it is recalled that, Sowore a Presidential Candidate in the last general electionswas arrested by the security operatives after he planned a nationwide protest tagged #RevolutionNow.
Penpushing also reports that, the Department of Security Services (DSS) accused Sowore of terrorism and plotting to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari, but he (Sowore) has since denied the allegation.
Meanwhile, Justice Nkeonye Maya, declined all applications by the counsel to Sowore, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and sent the case back to Justice Taiwo Taiwo for further hearing.
