SOWORE MAY SPEND THREE MONTHS IN DETENTION BEFORE TRIAL

The  activist who was the  Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2019 elections, was whisked away by the operatives of the Department of Security Service(DSS) early Saturday, having being accused by the Federal Government  of planning to overthrow the Buhari government.

Penpushing reports that Sowore landed in trouble water for calling for nationwide protests tagged, #RevolutionNow , which the Federal Government considered as treasonable felony crime, and constituted an “act of terrorism”.

However, as at Tuesday Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja  said he needed more days to watch the video clip before delivering his ruling on the application, and therefore adjourned the matter till August 8,

Penpushing also reports that, despite Sowore incarceration the protest under the #RevolutionNow banner, took place on Monday in some parts of the country which include Lagos and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The Government in swift response terminated the protest, while number of prominent Nigerians in reaction condemned Sowore’s arrest and the clampdown on peaceful protesters, with some accusing the Buhari administration of curbing civic rights in ways not seen since 1999.
