NATIONAL POPULATION COMMISSION COMMENDS PRESIDENT BUHARI ON APPROVAL OF DATA GENERATION

 “It is our hope at the Commission that at the end of this official launch of the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey report, policy makers, relevant Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, the organised private sector and other data end-users will take this report as a call to action, study it very carefully and use the data to identify priority action areas “, she said.

The Commissioner pointed out that, in order to determine the 2018 report, 14,821 women between age 15 to 49 years and 13,311 men between age 15 to 59 years in the households of 40, 427 were interviewed, representing a response rate of 99 percent of women and men.

Penpushing further reports that, Aderinokun disclosed that the National Population Commission (NPC) achieved the feat in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) under the Federal Ministry of Health.

“The NPC is proud to say that new, innovative approaches were used in the conduct of the 2018 NDHS. First, the anthropometry processes was improved to collect high quality height and weight measurements from children and women. A new biomarker checklist was introduced to ensure that no important tasks were missed. Interviewers also returned to households to re-measure children for flagged cases and random re-measurement for data quality checks,” she stated.

Penpushing also reports that, Aderinokun  stated the new improved processes piloted in Nigeria, has been adopted as standard procedures in DHS surveys by other nations, especially in Africa, just as she urged all stakeholders at the event, on need  for proper and judicious use of the data gathered.
