RADIO NIGERIA PARAMOUNT FM ENGAGES OGUN GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATES IN PUBLIC DEBATE
The Zonal Director Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Alhaji Muhammed Bello in his welcome address said the debate is organized across the South-West of the country, and recognized by the international bodies as a fundamental right of the people.
Penpushing further reports that, the Director, noted that Paramount F.M which is an arm of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria(FRCN), has lots of advantages, having being established and located in Abeokuta, the cradle of media practice in Nigeria
‘The European Court of Human rights noted in 1978 that freedom of political debate is at the very core of the concept of a democratic society. Freedom of political debate means exercising the right to discuss political matters in the public or in the media’
The Director represented by Bolanle Owoyemi, Deputy Director Marketing pointed out that if voters are to make informed choices at the polling stations, an active exercise of freedom of expression is essential, noting further that, democracy and freedom of speech are like set of Siamese twins.
‘Freedom of speech enables each individual to crystallize his or her autonomous opinion in the decision making process vital in a democratic state, the essence of democratic election is premised on being able to access informed opinions, evaluating them and exposing them to open debate’
