Power tussle: Amosun, Abiodun factions plan separate local government congresses in Ogun state
The unabated crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ogun State, has again resurfaced as two factions resolved to organize separate local government congress on Saturday in the state following power tussle between two political gladiators of the party
Penpushing reports that, the two political gladiators are former Governor Ibikunle Amosun who heads a faction to tackle his successor, Governor Dapo Abiodun, who also heads another faction, while Amosun faction is led by Derin Adebiyi, the Governor’s faction is led by Yemi Sanusi.
The investigation conducted by Penpushing as at the time of this report, ahead of the congress, revealed that Amosun had mobilized members of his camp which include himself ,as a serving Senator representing Ogun Central and his Ogun West Senatorial District counterpart, Senator Tolu Odebiyi in participating in the parallel congress
Penpushing further reports that sources, however, disclosed that, national secretariat of the party had assigned a 7-member committee to conduct the congress, while it was also learnt that Abiodun’s faction is said to have submitted to the committee’s conduct of the congress, and in contrary, it was not clear on committee assigned by the party leadership to conduct the Amosun camp congress as at the time of this report
The Local Government Congress Committee for the State, has, however, issued a stern warning to the Amosun group or any members planning to conduct parallel congress in the state on Saturday.
Penpushing also reports that, the chairman, of the seven-man committee, Chief Wale Ohu in the warning statement declared that any congress conducted aside from the one by his committee is null and void,
The committee boss issued the warning when members of the committee met with the electoral committee members saddled with the responsibility of conducting the congresses across the 20 local government areas of the state.
Penpushing reports that, Ohu also warned those engaging in anti-party activities to desist, noting that the party will not hesitate to sanction anyone found culpable of the act, stressing that the national body of the party frown against anti-party activities.
“The national leadership of the party frowns seriously against members who are committing anti-party activities for now. We have been sent from Abuja to strictly work according to the guidelines of the party and to strictly work according to the list of the executive members at the ward levels given to us from Abuja’, he declared.
Penpushing further reports that, he said the committee was strictly sent from the national secretariat of the party to conduct the congress, insisting that the party will not accept the result of any congress conducted aside from the one done by the recognised state party secretariat.
“This is the only list approved by the national secretariat; anything aside from this is null and void. The party frowns seriously at anybody conducting parallel congress and we will not accept any congress conducted other than the one done by the recognised body”, he stated.
Penpushing reports that, Ohu, however, urged the local government congress election committee to ensure they conduct the exercise in the all the 20 local government areas of the state according to the party guidelines.
The chairman of the electoral committee further told the committee members that exercise slated to commence at 10a.m, should be conducted in manners that would be rancour free and devoid of friction.
Penpushing also reports that the congress committee chairman while reacting to the inauguration of the ward executive committee by Amosun camp declared that the inauguration was an exercise in futility, submitting that the national headquarters of the party would not recognise such parallel inauguration.
The Chairman of the Amosun’s faction of the party, Derin Adeyemi was not responding to calls and messages sent to him by Penpushing for his reactions, while in same vein, the Publicity Secretary of the faction, Wole Elegbede was also not forthcoming when similar messages were sent to him
