Police submit report on vote buying, money laundering against Ladi Adebutu to Attorney-General of Federation

The Ogun State Command has confirmed submission of its report on allegation of vote buying and money laundering against the Governorship Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Penpushing reports that an online media outlet had revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji confirmed the update, following investigation on the petition written by the All Progressives Congress (APC), indicting the politician, who claimed to be abroad for medicals as at the time of this report

The Commissioner was quoted to have declared that having submitted the report, it was now left for the Attorney General of the Federation and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on next step against the suspect.

“We have written our report and submitted it. The next step is for INEC and the Attorney General of the Federation to look into the report and determine how to proceed against the suspect’, the commissioner explained

Penpushing further reports that the police boss disclosed that as at the time of filing this report, Adebutu who lost at the March 18, 2023 Governorship election has been written to appear before the police investigator, but seems not to be in a hurry to appear

“Obviously, we have written to invite him (Adebutu), he does not appear to be in a hurry to honour our invitation. We have done our investigative job and our report is already with the Attorney-General of the Federation and INEC’, he emphasized

“It is an election matter so it is INEC and the Attorney-General who will take the matter forward,” he said. “Whatever they come up with, we will know the next line of action. We have covered all the necessary grounds we need to cover. We interrogated necessary suspects involved and the bank Interswitch. Only Adebutu is left for us to interview. So to that extent, the case remains open’, he added

“We are now expecting the legal advice from the Federal Director of Prosecutions, who also has our investigative report. If Adebutu shows up, we will speak to him and update our report’, the command added.

The Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State is now said to be at risk of prosecution following his alleged role in voting buying and money laundering during the March 18, 2023 poll

Penpushing  also reports that an online media outlet had earlier revealed that interim police report on the allegation showed that the politician who claimed to be abroad for medical check as at the time of filing this report, alleged that he dispensed N2billion to induce voters to vote for him to enable him become the Governor of the State.

The politician had earlier claimed that he fled the country alleging that his life was in danger, and in response to the claim the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which wrote petition against him said he hurriedly travelled to evade arrest for prosecution over his alleged activities in illegality during the elections
