The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Abiodun Alamutu as the new Commissioner of Police to take over from immediate past commissioner, Yemi Oladimeji who was recently promoted as Assistant Inspector General of Police
Penpushing reports that Alamutu appointment was contained in a statement issued by Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, which also announced deployment of other seven commissioners to various states
‘The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment and deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to State Commands in the Country. The Commission also commended the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun for adhering to its latest Policy on gender sensitivity in his recommendation’, the statement reads.
Penpushing further reports that other appointed police commissioners include Godwin Aghaulor( Bornu State Command); Adelesi Oluwarotimi,(Kwara State Command); Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, (Oyo State Command); Augustina Ogbodo,(Ebonyi State Command), Samuel Titus Musa (Kebbi State Command), Aderemi Olufemi Adeoye,(Anambra State Command) and Stephen Olarewaju,(Imo State Command)
The statement said the commission however expects that the Inspector General in his subsequent proposals will include more officers of North East and South East geopolitical zones that are yet to record the benchmark of 15 percent as decided at its last plenary meeting.
Penpushing also reports the commission’s chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase, said the postings as recommended by the acting Inspector General of Police was on the average, fair and commended the Inspector General of Police for the inclusion of women.
The commission’s boss who is a retired Inspector General of Police advised that the acting Inspector General of Police should consider the disadvantaged geo-political zones while forwarding subsequent proposals for commission’s ratification.
Penpushing further reports that Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola in a statement on Saturday said the Command was happy to announce to the people of the State the appointment of Alamutu as the new commissioner.
The Command spokesperson while reeling out the profile of Alamutu said he was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force on the 18th of May 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police Course three at the Nigeria Police Academy Kaduna between 1992 and 1994
Penpushing also reports that the statement said he holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Lagos State University, adding that he proceeded to Gwoza Maiduguri in 1993 for Police Mobile Force, Anti riot and Tactical maneuvering training.
The profile has it that the new police boss in the state, later that year participated in the Citizenship and Leadership Course in Jos, and that in 1995 he was in Lagos State for Executive Traffic Management Course.
Penpushing reports that Alamutu has attended several development courses as stipulated by the Nigeria Police and they include: Unit Commanders Course Gwoza, Maiduguri 1996, Unit Commanders Seminars Gwoza, Maiduguri 1998, Deputy Commanders Course Gwoza, Maiduguri 2000, Commanders Seminar Gwoza Maiduguri 2003 and Intermediate Command Course Jos 2006.
The statement disclosed that other courses attended include: Conflict and Peace Resolution Course Accra, Ghana 2012, Integrated Peace Support Operation Course Amison Base Camp, Mogadishu, Somalia 2012, Human Right Course Amison Base Camp, Mogadishu, Somalia 2012,United Nations Humanitarian Civil – Military Coordination Course (UN-CMCOORD), Kenya 2013, Disarmament Demobilisation and Reintegration Course, Nairobi, Kenya 2013, Security Sector Reform Course (KAIPTC) Ghana 2013 and Senior Command Course, Jos 2018
Penpushing further reports that Odutola added that the Commissioner of Police Ogun State Command is presently an active member of International Association of Chief of Police, United States of America (USA).
The statement explained that since his appointment in 1992 into the Nigeria Police Force he has served in most of the states even in the toughest terrain as a seasoned officer of repute, he has exhibited bravity on his job where he garnered both administrative and operational experiences over the years.

The record equally has it that he was Commander Police Mobile Force 26 Squadron Akwa Ibom State 2002-2005, Divisional Police Officer Ajuwon Division Ogun State Police Command 2005- 2006, Divisional Police Officer Isara Division Ogun State Police Command 2006-2007 and Deputy Commander Gateway Response Squad Ogun State Police Command 2007-2009
