Police recovers Mohbab’s mobile phone as exhibit to aid investigation into cause of controversial death

The Lagos State Police Command has identified the mobile phone of late Nigerian musician Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad as exhibit in the ongoing investigation to unravel cause of the controversial death.

Penpushing reports that the Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa on Friday in an update on a 13-man police team set up to investigate the case said the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe who injected the musician before the sudden death was a principal suspect

The preliminary investigation has it that 26 critical witnesses, including family members, friends, and medical personnel, have been identified and interviewed, as well as some prime suspects which include, AbdulAzeez Adeshina (Naira Marley) and Samson Erinfolami Balogun (Sam Larry) for questioning

Penpushing further reports that Owohunwa said medical expert opinions from a team of medical professionals have highlighted instances of illegal acts and professional negligence in the administration of drugs by the auxiliary nurse.

The administered of the injection was believed to have triggered Mohbad’s fatal reactions which might have led to his untimely death on September 12, 2023, and was buried the next day at Ikorodu town of Lagos State.

‘This criminal liability is further heightened given the evidence that as an auxiliary nurse, she is not qualified to administer such medications or function as a qualified nurse. She also did this in a non-clinical environment and in a professionally negligent manner that negated standard medical protocols.”

Penpushing also reports that Owohunwa added that the investigation particularly scrutinised allegations against Naira Marley Sam Larry of bullying and assaulting the deceased and accusations against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The police boss said that Investigation letters have been sent to relevant organisations, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Medical Association, Pharmacist Council of Nigeria, and healthcare facilities involved in Mohbad’s case, seeking official responses and expert opinions.

Penpushing reports that the police report, said an investigation has revealed a sequence of events leading to Mohbad’s death, from a physical altercation at a concert on 10 September 2023 to administering injections by the auxiliary nurse on 12 September 2023.

The police also stated that various locations tied to the case, such as Mohbad’s residence and the concert venue in Ikorodu, have been visited for evidence collection, while six hand gloves, bandage, plaster, and iodine solution were retrieved.

Penpushing further reports that the Commissioner at the press conference on the update of investigation explained that, separately recovered is the mobile phone of the deceased which has been registered  alongside other  exhibits.

The police boss added that, witnesses and videos have supported allegations of bullying, assault, and threats to Mohbad’s life by Naira Marley and Sam Larry, stemming from disputes over a record label contract.

Penpushing also reports that he disclosed that the case file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for vetting and legal advice, potentially leading to further investigative actions and prosecution.

The Commissioner assured the public that the police force remains committed to uncovering the truth and delivering justice in this high-profile case, and equally pledged to keep the public informed of any developments, including autopsy and toxicology reports, Director of Public Prosecution advice, and feedback from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA).
