Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain, two electoral officials arrested for alleged vote buying during bye-election in Ogun state
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has confirmed purported arrest of Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Abayomi Tella and two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for alleged vote buying.
Penpushing reports that the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were identified as Toryem Joe-Stans, and Mandara Amina Mamman said to have been caught with huge amount of money at Iperu Remo before commencement of the Remo Federal Constituency by-election on Saturday
The police commissioner stated that following the arrest of the suspects as shown in a viral video said the authorities have commenced investigation to the allegation, with promise to give update later
“We are investigating the matter, that’s how much I can say for now. You may please call back later in the day for further information’, the commissioner stated
Penpushing further reports that in the viral video, a voice was heard saying that the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), two officials of the electoral commission and some others were arrested in the early hours of the day
“At the early hours of today, August 16, 2025, these people including two INEC staff were arrested. The INEC staff were posted here for the House of Representatives by-election for Remo Federal Constituency’, the male voice added.
“Rather than doing the right thing, they were found hobnobbing with the politicians and this huge amount of money was found on the INEC man who claimed to have been contacted by his Constituency Supervisor to go and meet the politician’, he said.
“They are already giving police useful information on this case. The INEC man said that the people that gave him the money were in a hotel at Iperu Remo, and these three people; Jonathan, Akeem Oyinlola and Abayomi Tella were met in the hotel.”
Penpushing also reports that the chairman of the opposition party, in the video instantly distanced himself from the purported money found with the electoral officials
“I don’t know anything about this money you’re talking about and I am still waiting for you (the police) to tell me why I am here’, Tella emphasized
