Oyo/Osun states command not responsible for shooting of motorist in Iseyin – customs spokesman

The Nigerian Custom Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command has denied involvement of its officers   for the alleged shooting of motorist on Friday in Iseyin area of the Oyo State.

Penpushing recalled that an officer of the Nigerian Customs was reportedly accused to have shot an executive member of the proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lateef Aboki at Iseyin-Moniya park in Iseyin.

The Public Relations Officers of the Command, Abdulahi Lagos Abiola, who is an Assistant Superintended of custom, when contacted on phone said that the officers involved in the incident were not officials from Nigerian Custom Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command, adding that the alleged officers were from Federal Operation Unit; zone A of Nigeria Custom Service.

“Immediately the incident reached us, the Comptroller of the Command, Mrs Uche Ngozi has given a directive to the residential officers at Iseyin to quickly intervened in other to restored normalcy around the area’, he said.

“We want to state it categorically that the officers involved in the incident were not from our command, they are officers from federal operation unit, zone A. We are yet to come up with any official statement until when we are properly briefed about the incident, but for now, we want to cleared the air against the media reports that the officers involved was from our command’.

“We didn’t have any problem with the people of Iseyin and Oyo State at large, so we are calling on harmonious between us and the people, we also appreciate the efforts of the Nigerian Police towards ensuring that normalcy comes back.

Penpushing further reports that the custom spokesman however noted that the custom comptroller frowned at having casualty during the course of discharging duties by the officers of the command, adding that the comptroller has said that all officers of the command should make sure that  they carried out their duties according to the rules of engagements.

“Iseyin are good people whom have been cooperating with the Nigerian Custom Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command, its unfortunate that such incident happened between the custom and the motorist.
