OYO GOVERNMENT KICK STARTS 2018 WORLD AIDS DAY

The Project Manager of the Agency, Dr. Olukayode Ogunkunle who represented the Governor’s wife  said the program is a yearly event put together by the  State government to sensitize Nigerians particularly the Oyo State people on how to know their HIV status, what they should do if they have already contacted it, and some precautionary measure to take in order to prevent them from contacting the diseases.

Hear him ‘ this week long event is to enlightened our people on HIV stigmatisation, and to advice them to check their status, and for them to know how to properly manage themselves if they are been infected by the diseases’.

“We are targeting 15,000 people so that the entire people tested positive will be recommended for treatment in some places designated for HIV treatment across the state.

He added that Nigerian youth who are leaders of tomorrow are mostly affected by this disease, noting that 2014 survey has shown that 1.9% of people living in the state are affected by HIV.

” Oyo State Government was ranked 2nd in terms of financial support towards the control of HIV out of the 36 States of the federation, Oyo State Government is trying its best but we still implore them to do more.

” OYSACA has rolled out the seven day program of events starting from today Friday, 23rd of November to Saturday 1st of December, 2018.

She said, the 3rd  which is Monday, November 26 is dedicated for Youth Festival at Iseyin with HIV Testing Services (HTS) at hotspots in the town by10am, which is in conjunction with Impressive Media Concept.

The wife of the Governor added Tuesday  November 27 teams from Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA)  and Ministry of Women Affairs will visit orphanages in the State where educational materials and toiletries will be donated.

She added that on Wednesday  November 28, a program targeting secondary schools youths featuring debate and presentation of prize and awards to outstanding students will be held at House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan by 11am.

Similarly, on Thursday November 29, Youth festival will hold at Oyo town with HIV testing at hotspot in all local government areas within Oyo town and its environs, with grand finale coming up on Saturday December 1 with a rally involving health outreach including HIV testing and Mega jam at Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan

She however urged all the residents to go out for the HIV test for them to know their health status adding that this will go a long way in strengthened their health and make them to live healthy.
