Owo Attack: Ondo state government cancels June 12 celebrations
The Ondo State Government has announced cancellation of the celebration of June 12, a day set aside as democracy day in Nigeria in honour of the late politician, Chief Moshood Abiola, presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election
Penpushing reports that a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Richard Olatunde, the explained that the cancelation was consequent upon the terror attack on innocent worshipers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, on Sunday.
“The cancelation is to enable the entire people of Ondo State mourn their loved ones who lost their lives in the horrific attack. Recall that the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, had directed that all flags in the state be flown at half -mast for seven days in honour of the victims of the terror attack”, the statement reads
Penpushing further reports that , it is recalled that gunmen had launched attack on the congregants of the church, killing forty worshippers and several others sustaining vary degree of injuries, who as at the time of filing this report were receiving treatment in hospital.
The Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had ordered that the flag must be fly half-mast in memory of the deceased, while it is also recalled that he(Akeredolu) had to cut short his trip to Abuja for the All Progressives Congress(APC) Presidential primaries
