Ogun State: Visitor drowns in community river

A man identified as Sunday Ogah, an Igede indigene of Benue State who came on a visit to a friend in Eyinwa community in Odogbolu local government area of Ogun State has been reported drown in Eyinwa river.

Penpushing reports that Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola who confirmed the incident in a statement said one Otusanya Abayomi of Igbe Ilara Ikorodu, Lagos State reported at Odogbolu Divisional Police Station that at about 12pm that he came with his friend Sunday Ogah to his community.

The statement added that he told the police that his deceased friend left him and others to an unknown destination without notifying anyone, adding that information later got to him that the said Ogah had gone to swim at Eyinwa River where he got drown.

Penpushing further reports that Odutola said upon the receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer of Odogbolu detailed surveillance police officers in collaboration with some local divers to locate the corpse, but their efforts proved abortive.

The police spokesperson as at the time of filing this report said effort was still ongoing to recover the corpse and to reach out to the family, to inform them of the sad occurrence, adding that the Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu Abiodun has extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

Penpushing also reports that Odutola in the statement assured that the command remain committed to promoting public safety and preventing such tragedies in the future and warned restive young persons to steer clear of rivers whose depth they cannot predict.
