LASSA FEVER: ENUGU STATE RECORDS ANOTHER DEATH

The Management of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Enugu has confirmed the death of a Lassa Fever Patient at the Hospital.

Penpushing reports that the Chief Medical Director (CMD) Dr Obinna Onodugo  confirmed  this  in a statement,  explaining that a case of Lassa fever was brought to the hospital on Friday, and the patient died thereafter  at the  Emergency and Accident Department of the Hospital.

“We are currently tracing contacts. We are also working with the Enugu State Epidemiology Team and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, to ensure that proper measures are taken at the mortuary and to protect staff against new cases. The CMAC/DCMACS have procured some other materials needed to keep our staff safe. There is no cause for alarm.”

Penpushing further reports that Onadugo  said it has medication for all those who have been exposed directly or remotely, stressing, “you are advised to be very careful these days and to have a high index of suspicion, while observing universal safety precautions’.

The Chief Medical Director urged the staff to privately call his attention or that of the authorities  it they notice any lapses so they can be addressed, stating,“may God be with us all as we try to discharge our duties creditably, he concluded.
