Ogun state house of assembly demands complete autonomy

The Speaker Ogun State House of Assembly Rt Hon Daisi Elemide has emphasized the need for complete autonomy for the assembly to be effectively functional in their legislative duties and role.

Penpushing reports that Elemide made the emphasis during a media chat to highlight assembly activities of two years under his leadership, stressing that assembly without complete autonomy cannot achieve 100 percent performances in their oversight functions.

The number one lawmaker accompanied by his colleagues and management staff of the assembly pointed out that the only autonomy available to them now is administrative, and encouraged the executive arm of government to consider the request.

‘We need complete autonomy. We only have administrative autonomy. A house without complete autonomy cannot achieve 100% performances in oversight function’, Elemide stated.

Penpushing further reports that on why he is not living the Speaker’s quarters meant for him, explained that there is no law that he should reside in the quarters, adding that he is more comfortable living in the midst of his political supporters.

‘There is no law that I should stay in the quarters essence of the quarters is for member and a driver, not even with our wives, it is not meant for me to bring wife. We are not mandatory to sleep’, he stated.

Penpushing also reports that Elemide who affirmed that he was happy becoming the Speaker of the assembly, speaking on land grabbing, said the assembly had successfully passed the bill and became law in the state with consent of the Governor.

The Speaker who identified that land grabbers have strong network, explained that the assembly having passed the bill, it is now the responsibility of the Governor to be proactive in the implementation
