Edo state deputy governor denied access to office

The Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu was on Monday locked out from gaining access to his office located within the Government House premises, with the gates reportedly locked with chains and heavy padlocks when he arrived there.

Penpushing reports that the Deputy Governor and his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki were reported to have been at loggerhead for a while, necessitating relocation of his (Shaibu) office outside the Government House

The shocking development was linked to the feud between the duo, which was more pronounced when the Deputy Governor was to access his office, and had to be locked outside, just as he claimed that he has no communication of the said relocation of his office

‘Up till now, I don’t have any official communication that I should relocate. The only people that have official communication are my civil servants. The civil servants have official communication but I don’t. As I am speaking to you now, I am standing by the gate’, Shaibu was quoted as saying.

Penpushing further reports that an aide to the Deputy Governor who remained anonymous said his boss  made unsuccessful efforts to phone the Governor before leaving after waiting for about an hour at the gate.

The aide  said  the Deputy Governor enquired from the Government House Commandant, Ibrahim Babatunde, who told him that the directive was from the “above,” apparently referring to the Governor, and when the Chief Security Officer at the Government House, Wabba Williams, was contacted by Shaibu, he promised to see him, but failed to show up at the gate before the Deputy Governor left,

‘All that the deputy governor is asking is an official communication to move (to a new office). The movement is not a verbal thing because the office is a creation of law. The governor has insisted that he does not want the deputy governor around him anymore. But he should do the right thing. We are still expecting his letter’, the aide stated.

Penpushing also reports that an aide to the Governor who equally preferred anonymity when contacted emphasized that the office of the Deputy Governor had since been relocated outside the Government House.

The Governor’s aide explained that the Deputy Governor was free to access his new office and not the old office at the Government House, and in response to whether the Deputy Governor was officially informed about the relocation of his office claimed it was announced through Shaibu media team.
