Ogun state government inaugurates 7 -man committee on sexual harassment at workplace

The Ogun State government has inaugurated a seven-man committee on sexual harassment, as advocated by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) commission and Department for International Development (DFID)/ Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL), in line with the promotion of decent work environments in the Southwestern States of Nigeria.

Penpushing reports that, Information Officer of the Public Service Transformation Office, Oluwayemisi Onanuga, made this known in a statement adding that, the inauguration took place at the office of the Head of Service, Oke-Mosan,Abeokuta.

The statement said , the Head of Service TPL. Amope Chokor in her speech  said Ogun State was the first to take this step among the Southwest states, and would ensure that a policy was put in place to address the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace, saying the act will not be condoned in the State’s Civil Service.

“The need to have decent workplace in our dear State, has made it imperative for us to have a policy in place to address the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. We know this does not only affects women, men are also being harassed. So we have as members of this committee, Permanent Secretaries and Directors, who are men and women of impeccable character’’, she stated.

Penpushing further reports that, in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, who is to serve as the Chairman of the committee, appreciated the Head of Service for the confidence vested in them as a committee and promised to give their best shots, as plans will commence in earnest.

“We believe workers should work in an environment free of harassments for both genders, Ogun State been a leading light in Public Service, promise to keep this assignment alive and make this dream a reality”, he said.

The Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN)  representative, Mrs. Munachizum Odulana in her good will message said, she was proud of Ogun State for setting the pace amongst other States in South West, while charging other States to emulate this.

Penpushing also reports that, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Transformation Office (PSTO) Mr. Jola Oyeneye, while appreciating the Head of Service for being proactive in this direction, said the committee would be prompt and get back with good reports as soon as possible.
