Ogun state elders forum calls for peace at poll

The Ogun State Elders Consultative Forum have enjoined all stakeholders in the forthcoming general elections in the state on need to ensure that peace prevails before,during and after the general elections.
Penpushing reports that the plea was contained in a statement issued by chairman of the forum, Otunba (Dr) S.A.J. Ibikunle stressing that it is duty of every residents particularly electorate and political gladiators that nothing is done to tamper with the peace that the state is noted with.
“In my capacity as the newly elected Chairman of Ogun State Elders Consultative Forum,I enjoin all stakeholders in the impending 2023 General Elections in Ogun State to ensure that peace prevails before,during and after the elections.It is our duty to ensure that nothing is done to tamper with the peace that Ogun State is noted for from time immemorial”,he emphasized
“Therefore,it behoves all the political parties to educate their supporters to promote a culture of peace and tolerance in all their activities.There should be no room whatsoever for violence in any form during political campaigns,the elections proper and thereafter”, Ibikunle added.
Penpushing further reports that the forum called on all the contestants to the various positions,that they should not see the elections as a do or die affair, adding that losers are expected to demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship once the results are announced.
“I appeal to the umpires of the elections,the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to exhibit commitment to transparent and credible elections by ensuring that the new Electoral Act is implemented to the letter to deepen our democratic process.Nothing should be done to subvert the Electoral Act”.
“To the law enforcement and other security agents,I urge you to perform your duties with every sense of responsibility and utmost professionalism.You must eschew partiality or bias in the discharge of your duties throughout the period of the elections.Any reported infringement must be promptly investigated and dealt with”, the chairmanstated.
Penpushing also reports that the forum noted thst the last hope of the common man is the judiciary and therefore  urged the body to adjudicate all cases brought before the courts with fairness and without delay to reinforce the trust reposed in this important arm of government by the general public.
“Peace begins with us as individuals as non-violence starts by learning how to be less violent and more compassionate with ourselves.Hence,I want us to live by the maxim that maintenance of peace is the duty of all citizens of Ogun State.This must be our attitude for the betterment of our society. God bless Ogun State of Nigeria ! God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria !!”, he stressed
