OGUN JOURNALISTS POLL: ELECTORAL COMMITTEE RELEASES TIME TABLE FOR FRESH ELECTION
The Electoral Chairman, Lanre Ogunyinka in a statement signed alongside Secretary of the credential committee, Ayo Obadimu declared that, the electoral body has lifted ban on politics and campaign for all elective posts with effect from Thursday, 29th August, 2019.
‘The lifting of the Ban consequently, signals the official Commencement of the Electoral activities by all Registered and Practicing Journalists in the State towards the final Elections of the Union’s State Council Executives as approved by the national body of the union’, the statement said.
Penpushing further reports that, the electoral body said all interested members of the Union in the State are, put on notice on the process of the elections as which start from Monday, 2nd September, 2019 with sale of nomination forms.
The statement explained that Thursday, 19th September, 2019 is date for closure of sales of forms and submission of nomination forms, while Saturday, 21st to Wednesday, 25th September, 2019 dedicated for screening of aspirants for the Elections and Friday, 27th September, 2019 is date for release of list of qualified aspirants.
Penpushing also reports that, the statement explained that Monday, 30th September, 2019 to Wednesday, 2nd October, 2019 dedicated for claims and objections, and Friday, 4th October, 2019 for display of final list of candidates/ eligible voters for the elections
The statement said Wednesday, 9th October, 2019 is manifesto night scheduled to hold between 4:30pm to 7: 00pm prompt, and Wednesday, 9th October, 2019 for close of campaigns which terminate 12 midnight
Penpushing reports that, the electoral committee said Thursday, 10th October, 2019 is for elections between 8:30 am to 2:00 pm, followed with release of results and Swearing in Ceremony commence immediately.
The Committee reiterated it’s determination to conduct and effect a very transparent and peaceful election with a high sense of responsibility, accountability and respect for the Constitutional Provisions of the Union.
Penpushing reports that, the electoral body declared that it would not condone any act or conduct that could be inimical to the smooth process of the election from any member of the Union, and warned those who have nothing to do with the election to stay away from the venue
‘Consequently, the Committee wishes to announce that it has put in place enough security mechanisms to ensure the success of the election and protections of law abiding members throughout the period of the elections’, the statement reads.
‘We therefore advice non members of the Union as well as those who have no legitimate reason or business to be around the the election premises to keep off in their own interests, please.
