OGUN GOVERNMENT JOINS WORLD TO FIGHT TROPICAL DISEASE
The Ogun State Government has joined the rest of the world to mark the maiden edition of the World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day (NTDs) with a call on stakeholders to put all hands on deck to arrest the scourge of the diseases.
Penpushing reports that, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker led health workers, researchers and media on the street walk to Kuto and Omida Markets to mark the day in Abeokuta, said that the present administration in the State remains committed to the well being of residents.
The Commissioner while speaking assured that the campaign against the existence of the Neglected Tropical Diseases Day (NTDs) will be more intensified with political will by the Dapo Abiodun led government in the State.
“It is my utmost pleasure that the world had finally set aside January 30 for the commemoration of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). I want to assure you that the present administration will not relent in its commitment to giving a face-lift to the health sector’, she said.
“We are taking this campaign against NTDs to the hinterlands and we have put all machineries in place to ensure that this sensitisation is a continuous one given the political will of the present administration to eradicate NTDs in our midst,” she said.
Penpushing further reports that, Consultant Pediatrician, Dr. Olabisi Dedeke described the Neglected Tropical Diseases Day (NTDs) as such that are capable of cutting short the lives of promising children, hence she called on parents and school owners to join hands with the government in fighting the menace.
The Consultant Pediatrician advised that parents to desist from stopping their children from taking part in free deworming exercise of the government, saying that it is for the benefit of the kids.
