Nigerian military set up board of inquiry over alleged killing of policeman in Lagos

The military authorities said on Friday that, it has constituted a board of Inquiry into the alleged killing of a policeman in Ojo area of  Lagos State by yet to be identified soldier, with assurance that anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions.

Penpushing reports that, Acting Deputy Director of the 81 Division, Major Olaniyi Osoba made this known in a statement, while confirming the incident, adding that the attention of the military authorities have been drawn to the incident

The  statement said the Division was already in touch with the Lagos State Police Command to resolve the matter, lamenting that  incident was highly regrettable given the Division’s disposition and zero tolerance for any misconduct.

“The attention of the 81 Division has been drawn to a story online over the unfortunate incident that occurred between some soldiers and policemen around Ojo in Lagos resulting in the loss of the life of a police officer’,Osoba said

“The Division is already in touch with the Lagos State Police Command to resolve the matter. This incident is highly regrettable given the Division’s disposition and zero tolerance for any misconduct”, he added.

Penpushing further reports that, Osoba assured that board of Inquiry will unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasisng that any of the officer(s) found wanting over the ugly development will face the music

The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin who equally confirmed the sad incident, said the command was already working with the Nigerian authorities to resolve the issue, and get back the deceased arms and ammunitions

“We are working with the @HQNigerianArmy authorities to resolve this issue; and get back our officer, arms and ammunition. RIP to our fallen hero 🫡. You absolutely did not have to die”, Hundeyin wrote in his twitter page

Penpushing also reports that, it is recalled that, soldiers from the cantonment reportedly dragged two police officers, who were working as traffic wardens, to their barracks; while the third officer managed to escape.

The source said  the soldiers were allegedly  driving against traffic on Wednesday and were stopped by the police officers, and the soldiers while they didn’t have it their way, they were said to have pounced on the officers and beaten them severely and kidnapped two of them.

Penpushing reports that, the source added that   when the soldiers noticed that one of the abducted officers became unconscious, they decided to take him to their hospital at the cantonment where he eventually died.
