Nigerian government suspends work on Lagos- Ibadan expressway over Sallah celebrations
The Nigerian Government has suspended works on the reconstruction of the Lagos- Ibadan expressway to ease traffic flow during the Sallah celebrations, a development which takes place between Tuesday to Sunday.
Penpushing reports that the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Olukorede Kesha made this known in a statement on Monday, explaining that work will thereafter resume on the road on Monday, while noting that the construction works have been causing a traffic jam on the expressway.
The Federal Controller of Works said the ministry reasoned with people requesting for temporary stoppage of work in the interest of motorists during the festive period to allow ease of travelling on the ever busy expressway.
“Due to the recent heavy traffic flow being experienced on the Lagos Shagamu route in the last couple of days, the inclement weather conditions, the forthcoming Eid Kabir and the advice of the traffic management team deployed to manage traffic related issues on the project, Construction activities on this ever busy and very important highway will be suspended from Tuesday, 27th of June to Sunday,2nd of July,2023’,Kesha added.
‘This is to allow travellers easy passage during the Eid holiday and minimise the discomfort during this very important period. Travelers are advised to cooperate with Traffic Management Team deployed on the highway to manage traffic’, he stated
