Nigerian Government need vigorous fight against prostate cancer, says Health Commissioner

The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker has called on government across all levels to vigorously fight prostate cancer which claims the lives of numerous men in the country annually.

Penpushing reports that, Coker made the call at the ground breaking of Rotary Prostate Cancer Center in Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH),in  Sagamu town of  Ogun State.

The Commissioner who joined the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele at the ground breaking described prostate cancer as a menace which is the most common in Nigerian men, saying that late detection and treatment are responsible in the fatalities to the scourge.

Penpushing further reports that, Coker commended the initiative of Rotary District 9110 and its investment in the health sector of Ogun State, pointing out that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led government is determined to improve life expectancy of residents.

The commissioner stated that , Ogun State  has 53 years life span which is the best in the country but this government is working hard towards raising the bar of human health,adding that there is need for all Nigerians to join forces in fighting the scourge.

“Nigeria as a whole should join forces together to fight the scourge of prostate cancer. This project when completed will be of great help to Ogun State and Nigeria at large. The key to cancer is early detection and treatment to avoid complications. If all hands are on deck to fight cancer, our nation will be better for it,” she said.

The District Governor, Bola Oyedele in her remarks assured that the project will be completed within the space of eight months, soliciting for the support of we’ll meaning Nigerian to donate towards equipping the center.
