Nigerian editors elect new president, other officials
The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) on Friday elected Eze Anaba of the Vanguard Newspapers as the new President alongside other executives to overseer activities of the Guild for the next two years in the country
Penpushing reports that election at the National Biennial Convention of the Guild was held under conducive atmosphere at Rockview Hotel, Owerri, Imo State Capital, where Anaba polled 250 votes against his opponent Bolaji Adebiyi who scored 81 votes.
The election results announced by the Chairperson of the election committee, Maimuna Garba stated that other elected officials include Husseina Bangshika as Deputy President, Iyobosa Uwugiaren(General Secretary), Umoru Ibrahim Vice President North, Garba Kabir(Vice President West)Vice President East, Sheddy Ozoene; Social/Publicity Secretary, Charles Kalu, and Treasurer, Steve Osuji.
Penpushing further reports that other officials elected as standing committee include Wale Shogunle,Chinedu Egere,Dom Isute,Roses Moses, Onuoha Ukeh, as well as Gabriel Akindewo returned unopposed as Assistant Secretary
The newly elected President in his acceptance speech thanked members of the Guild for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to let them down, and also thanked the outgoing president, Mustapha Isah, for his leadership attributes and for organizing a successful election.
Penpushing also reports that Anaba pledged to uphold the Constitution of the Guild and promote the ethics of the journalism profession and lead the campaign against policies that undermine media freedom.
