NATIONAL LIBRARY TO DISTRIBUTE BOOKS TO EXPECTANT MOTHERS TO ENHANCE COMMUNICATION WITH UNBORN BABIES

Similarly, the Librarian said the Library is to broaden its campaign strategy, as it is set to engage the forum of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to establish reading clubs in their orientation camps and places of primary assignments across the country, stressing that the authority will give them the necessary support to carry out the assignment.

Earlier in his opening remark, Head of National Library in Ogun State, Johnson Ajayi recalled that life used to be a lot simpler and easy and reading was one of the most popular forms of self-development, self-education and entertainment, but lamented that these days, with the ever advancement in technology, there is more distraction and other things for people to do.

‘Many people have lost interest in reading, some children, even find it boring as they prefer to play video games or spend all time on their phones. This is a crying shame, as reading offers many benefits. It also plays a major role in children’s and adults development, because it improves your ability to focus, retain information, think better and concentrate’

Ajayi emphasized that, ’I you want to be more successful and you want to grow, then you need to learn and focus, and reading has got all these crucial areas of development and more, covered. Reading is the best form of self-educating yourself, and there are no limits or boundaries to what you can learn and become’
