National Broadcasting Commission summons radio presenter for slapping guest during interview
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has summoned presenter of the popular radio programme known as Brekete Family Show, Ahmed Isah, for alleged profuse slapping his guest during his programme.
Penpushing reports that, Isah, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Human Rights Radio was interviewing the female guest, and repeatedly asked her to confess while she allegedly set a young girl’s hair on fire over witchcraft allegation.
The interviewee in response said she could not explain what ‘enter her head’; to have set the victim’s hair on fire, and response to her response, Isah repeatedly slapped the guest, as seen in a video
Penpushing further reports that, following the unprofessional conduct of Isah, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), declared that it cannot overlook the misconduct of the presenter, and therefore wrote him to appear for questioning
The Deputy Director, Public Affairs, of the commission Ekanem Antia, confirmed the invitation to the presenter by the commission, stressing that the authority, as a regulatory body for broadcast media was concern over the ugly development
”The NBC, as a regulatory body for broadcast media, is concerned over the recent happening at the Human Rights Radio and deemed it fit to invite Isah. As a regulatory body for the broadcast media, the NBC cannot overlook this’” he said.
Penpushing also reports that, Antia stated that the invitation would enable the commission to know the circumstances surrounding the situation that led to the assault of the female interviewee at the Brekete show studio.
“Broadcasting should guarantee fairness for all citizens and a broadcaster should grant a right of reply to every citizen before passing judgment. That is why the commission decided to send a letter of invitation to the CEO of Human Rights Radio and the anchor of the popular Brekete Family radio programme, Ahmed Isah, to come to NBC and explain the circumstances surrounding his actions.’’
Penpushing reports that, the commission, cautioned broadcasters to recognise the power they have and exercise such with great responsibility and sensitivity, and equally appealed to broadcasters to focus on programmes that address issues concerning peace and patriotism and proffer solutions.
The spokesman of Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) emphasised that broadcasters should see themselves as positive change agents, who have the responsibility to foster progress and peace.
Penpushing further reports that, the interviewee was reported to have tied the girl’s hands and legs, poured kerosene on her head and ignited a fire, and alleged brutality she said, she could not explained what led her to that.
