MUSLIM MEDIA WATCH GROUP CAUTION NATION’S LEADERS, MEDIA OVER UNGUARDED STATEMENTS

While noting that leaders should talk when things are going wrong, the media watch group counsel them to seek other ways and avenues, other than press in venting their opinions for normalcy to reign supreme in the country.

The group added that it was not averse to their “voice of reasoning” in tackling nation’s problems, and advised them to change styles and be above boards as “gatekeepers”, also charged the media to refrain from sensational news reportage, inimical to stability and national cohesion.

‘As fourth estate of realm, they should be part of the solution despite grievances by leaders amongst which are their media owners. They should uphold and adhere to professional ethics’’,the statement added

The body stated that an in-depth, investigative and developmental journalism, aided by ‘freedom of information’ /FOI will fastrack and promote good governance, and charged conventional and the new technology media to lead the campaign for “nationalism” as against sectional and tribal concerns.

The MMWGN challenged the Presidency over the released list of ‘nation’s treasury looters’, noting that it was lopsided and against opposition, wondering why people in government were shielded, even NASS members who have been found guilty to have mismanaged public funds.

The group admonished ed the central administration against ‘selective justice’ in order not to rubbish it’s Anti-graft initiatives, and which remains a cornerstone of his administration.
