Senator Salisu advocates educational empowerment for children

The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District of Ogun State at the national assembly, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu has advocated for educational empowerment for children

Penpushing reports that Salisu made the call at a capacity building workshop he organized for traditional rulers and community leaders held at June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

The federal lawmaker who gave out educational materials to students emphasized that this became necessary as a more sustainable approach, explaining that materials such as sewing machines and motorcycles, can easily be sold or become obsolete.

Penpushing further reports that he said he was more concern about education of the younger ones, hence, his resolve to also offered scholarship to them, particularly the indigent students in his constituency

The politician emphasized the importance of revising educational curricula to include modern skills like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, noting that without meaningful investment in teacher training, any curriculum reforms would be ineffective.

“This is about preparing our children not just with tools, but with hope. It is a simple gesture, but a powerful reminder that the path to a better future begins with basic access and strong community support’, he emphasised

Penpushing also reports that Salisu at the capacity-building session, themed “Roles in Ensuring Improved Enrollment of Students in Secondary School Education,” called on traditional rulers and community leaders to collaborate in tackling the rising number of out-of-school children and to prioritize the value of formal education within their communities.

The Chairman of the House Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity urged all stakeholders, including parents and Nong-Governmental Organisations(NGOs), to join in a collective effort to address educational decline, advocating for a proactive stance rather than a passive one.

The Olu of Itori, equally  affirmed Salisu’s impact and dedication to his constituency, and encouraged him not to relevant in efforts in putting smiles to the faces of the residents of his constituency.

Penpushing further reports that the monarch emphasized the heavy responsibility that rests on the shoulders of community leaders when it comes to the younger generation, pointing out that children are future of better tomorrow.

‘If there is adequate security in the community, people will be eager to go to school. Parents will feel safer sending their children out to learn, and schools will function better in an atmosphere of peace’, he stated

Penpushing also reports that he urged traditional rulers to be proactive in maintaining security within their domains by working closely with local law enforcement and vigilante groups, as well as engaging with youths to prevent crime and violence.
