Missing university student found in shallow grave in Ekiti state

The declared missing 200-level student of Nursing Department at Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State Modupe Atanda, found dead in a shallow grave at a distance of about 30 meters behind the nursing lecture hall of the institution.

Penpushing reports that Ekiti State Police Command Public Relations Officer Abutu Sunday confirmed this in a statement, adding that 10 suspects have been arrested over the alleged gruesome murder of the female student.

The statement said the Commissioner of Police Dare Ogundare has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the death while the body of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.

Penpushing further reports that Sunday assured that the command would do everything possible to unearth the identity of the perpetrator (s) and ensure they were made to face the full wrath of the law.

The Registrar of the university, Mufutau Ibrahim, in similar vein confirmed the death of the student in a statement, recalling that the authorities of the institution had earlier made public about the sad development.

Penpushing also reports that the registrar in the statement on Thursday made available to journalists assured that an investigation was ongoing, until it was later established by the security outfit of the institution that the student was found dead.

‘But current information reaching the security outfit of the university has disclosed that the said student is dead. While the university management condoles with the family of the deceased and the generality of the university community, particularly our dear students, an investigation is ongoing with the security agencies with a view to getting to the root of the sad development and arresting the perpetrators”, he stated

Penpushing reports that the management of the university, however, assured the parents of the deceased that every person connected to the death of their daughter would be arrested and be made to face the wrath of the law.

Meanwhile, the university’s students’ union led by Comrade Ajayi Emmanuel, on Thursday in another statement, debunked the rumour that the body of their deceased colleague was found mutilated on discovery.
