Man jailed for life for raping 8-year-old
The State High Court in Calabar, Cross River State, has sentenced a 25-year-old man Aniedi Mfon to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping an eight-year-old girl, a crime he committed in September 2022.
Penpushing reports that Basic Right Council Initiatives (BRCI), a Non-Governmental Organisation which focuses on fighting rape, witchcraft branding, human rights abuse and other repressive practices, offered legal representation to the survivor.
The judge, Justice Blessing Egwu of Family Court 2 while sentencing the convict after he was found guilty of the crime and equally awarded N1 million fine in favour of the survivor, and decried the surge in rape cases
Penpushing further reports that the Principal Counsel at the organisation, James Ibor, said the judgement means justice is served on the survivor and her family, whom he said courageously turned down bribery and intimidation during the pursuit of justice.
