Amosun’s wife Joins Agboketoyinbo descendants to celebrate 164th memorial anniversary
The former Ogun State first lady Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, on Wednesday, joined other descendants of Chief Ogunbona Agboketoyinbo Mosuleka, the renowned Egba warlord and Balogun of Ikija to commemorate the 164th remembrance anniversary of their revered ancestor in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.
Penpushing reports that the annual event brought together generations of family members, which include former Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s wife at the Ikija ancestral home of the family in Abeokuta.
The ceremony was designed, to honour the enduring legacy of the legendary Egba warrior and community leader, which also featured special Islamic and Christian prayers, with religious leaders urging descendants to emulate the values of their forebear.
Penpushing further reports that Amosun expressed her pride in the family’s enduring unity, describing the continued bond among descendants as remarkable, adding that it is amazing that the family can remain united for 164 years
‘The fact that the family can remain united for 164 years is absolutely amazing. I can only implore everyone of us in the family to draw inspiration and be motivated by the legacies that our great-grandfather, Chief Ogunbona Agboketoyinbo left behind. We must continue to stay united as one and to keep the flag of the family flying’, she stated.
“I come from the ‘idigi’ (lineage) of the Ogunmakinde in the Ogunbona Agboketoyinbo dynasty of Ikija in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and I am happy to identify with other family members’, Amosun explained.
Penpushing also reports that record has it that Amosun’s maternal grandmother was the first daughter of late Ogunmakinde, one of the sons of the late Egba warlord, Chief Ogunbona Agboketoyinbo Mosuleka, making her a direct descendant of the iconic Egba generalissimo being honoured.
The Imam at the ceremony, Maruf Ogunbona in his remarks underscored the importance of living a life of purpose and community service, and praised the deceased for his historic role in fostering peace, unity, and the development of Egbaland.
Penpushing reports that similarly, Reverend Johnson Ajayi of St. Jude’s Church, Iberekodo, highlighted the deceased contributions to the propagation of Christianity, and commended him for supporting the missionaries during his lifetime.
Meanwhile, other dignitaries in attendance include Prince Alao Adedayo, Publisher of Alaroye Magazine; Prince Oluwalogbon Enilolobo, the Asiwaju Onigbagbo of Abeokuta South Local Government; and Prince Rotimi Meadows -Ogunbona, the current head of the family, among others.
