Man, 58, allegedly commits suicide in Ondo community
A 58-year-old man identified as Omolayo Bamidele, has allegedly committed suicide along a pathway leading to a community known as Igburowo town located in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Penpushing reports that Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, as a source said he had earlier engagement in argument with members of his family and had threatened to kill himself by drinking a harmful substance the day before the incident.
The source in the community disclosed that an empty bottle of snipper, a known poisonous insecticide, was found beside his lifeless body on Thursday along the said pathway, an indication that he might have killed himself with the substance.
Penpushing further reports that a witness account said the case was later reported at the Ore Area Command of the Nigeria Police, which later sent its men to the community to evacuate the corpse to be deposited at the State Specialist Hospital in Ore.
The police sources, however, claimed that the deceased did not leave any suicide note, adding that as part of the ongoing investigations, members of the deceased’s family had been invited for by police for interrogation.
Penpushing also reports that Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, affirmed that the command had received information about the incident, adding that it was suspected case of suicide, assuring that to be suicide, investigation would reveal the circumstances which led to the incident. death of the deceased.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report residents have been trooping to the scene to see the corpse, while beside the bottle of snipper, a pair of sandals said to belong to the deceased was also seen at the scene.
