June 12 celebration: Ogun state all progressives congress pays tributes to Abiola

The ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), Ogun State Chapter has described the winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Bashorun Moshood  Abiola, as a  “martyr for democracy, who paid the supreme price for the  democracy being enjoy in Nigeria.”

Penpushing reports that, the party made this known in a statement signed by Assistant Publicity Secretary, Caretaker Committee, Mrs Olusola Ogunsanya as the nation marks the first official celebration of June 12, as National Democracy Day.

The statement quoted the party Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi,  as describing late Abiola as being among icons of Ogun extraction, who are “worthy Ambassador of our State, and emblems of the  many contributions of her citizens to national development in many spheres of life, which we are very proud of”.

“Martyr of Democracy, you paid the supreme price for the democracy we now enjoy in Nigeria.  Following your stride of banishing poverty, well encapsulated in your ‘Hope 93 Agenda’, our Progressive, focused, people-oriented and participatory government, has also been actively promoting good governance manifested in the ‘Building Our Future Together Agenda’, aimed at economic development of our dear State and individual prosperity for the citizens”, the tribute reads

“On the occasion of the first official celebration of June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria, we are happy to affirm that your death has not been in vain. You and other icons of Ogun State extraction are worthy Ambassadors of our State, and emblems of the many contributions of her citizens to nations development in many spheres of life, which we are proud of”.

“Our sincere appreciation to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, for making June 12 National Democracy Day, a public holiday and for honouring Bashorun MKO Abiola with the highest national honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR.”
