Judge orders arrest of Premium Times’ reporter inside courtroom
The Chief judge of Akwa Ibom High Court, Justice Ekaette Obot on Wednesday ordered the arrest of Saviour Imukudo,a reporter with the Premium Times who was in the court to cover proceedings on the defamation case between the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, and a lawyer, Leo Ekpenyong.
Penpushing reports that, an eye witness who gave account of the scenario said the judge had asked the reporter to identify himself in the courtroom when the proceedings started, and having done that, the judge ordered him to leave the courtroom.
The source added that, as the reporter was walking out of the courtroom, the judge ordered a police officer to search him and confiscate his phone, and as at the time of this report, the journalist, was still being detained in the court.
Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that, Justice Obot, during one of the previous proceedings had sent Inibehe Effiong, a counsel of Leo Ekpenyong to correctional centre in a controversial manner
Meanwhile, the journalist has been covering the defamation case between Governor Emmanuel and Ekpenyong in the court, while it is also recalled that, the counsel to Ekpenyong alerted the public though his tweets that, he was been sent to correctional cente by the judge.
