Italian coronavirus patient in Nigeria to be discharged soon, says Governor Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has disclosed that the Italian coronavirus patient will soon be discharged from the hospital, with affirmation that he had responded well to treatment in the Lagos Hospital, where he was admitted.

Penpushing recalled that, on return to Nigeria, the Italian, was at a cement factory company in Ewekoro in Ewekoro Local Government area of Ogun State, when he suddenly  fell ill, and was diagnosed of the deadly disease, before he taken out of the town, and quarantined in a Lagos Hospital.

The Governor gave hint of the patient discharge  while receiving the management team of Lafarge Plc, led by its Country Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khaleed El Dokani, on  a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta,.

The Governor said his government  would continue to regard the virus as a serious threat that deserves special attention, considering the State’s status as the nation’s industrial hub, with large number of expatriates.

Penpushing further reports that, Abiodun  said that the Coronavirus situation in the State was under control, adding  that both World Health Organization and the National Centre for Disease Control had been rendering necessary supports to contain the viru.

The Governor speaking further  said the State was looking at the possibility of setting up a Bio-security centre, commending Lafarge for its swift responses to the first index case, as well as the first set of contacts.

Penpushing also reports that, Abiodun who acknowledged the company to be the first cement factory in the State and had contributed to the State’s economy through employment and Corporate Social Responsibility activities, said it has set a pace for others, urging it to sustain the level of attention given to the virus.

The Governor while lamenting the deplorable condition of some roads due to use of heavy duty trucks, pleaded with companies to collaborate with State government in maintaining them.

“The deplorable state of these roads, like the Abeokuta-Ifo-Lagos road, is due to heavy duty trucks. This road was not constructed to accommodate such trucks. Please look at ways to collaborate with government in maintaining this road, which is probably the second busiest and the country, to alleviate the suffering of the people”, he said.

The Governor who explained steps taken to strengthen the private sector participation in the development of the State, said various agencies like the Investment and Facilitation Promotion, Business Environment Council and Public Private Partnership Office, were put in place to serve as one stop-shop, in line with global best practices.

Penpushing reports that, earlier in his remarks, Country Chief Executive Officer  of Larfage Plc, Mr. Dokani said the company operates two factories, located in Ewekoro and Sagamu, with more than 500 staff, while provision affordable houses in its areas of operation was being considered, revealing that it has invested in a 50 Megawatts of power-plant at Ewekoro, capable of producing 90 Megawatts, out of which 40 Megawatts, would be available for the national grid.
