International Press Centre organises media training on accountability of funds for coronavirus, others

The International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos-Nigeria in conjuction with Media Rights Agenda (MRA) have concluded arrangements for a two-day Media training workshop on using Freedom of Information Act(FOI) for investigative reports of campaign finance and coronavirus accountability issues.

Penpushing reports that, the Director, International Press Centre (IPC),Lanre Arogundade disclosed this, adding that  the training  is funded through Component 4b: Support to the Media of the European Union(EU) Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) Project.

The workshop is designed for twenty-five male and female investigative reporters, political reporters, state house correspondents and editors drawn from the public and private print, broadcast, and online media.

Penpushing further reports that, the thrust of the workshop is to sharpen the investigative skills of participants to be committed in reportage that will enable various stakeholders to use the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act as a tool to facilitate transparent, free, fair and credible elections and monitor coronavirus funds.

The expected outcome is to engender interventions that shall sensitize and enlighten more Nigerian citizens on the existence, benefits and the use the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.

Penpushing also reports that, it is as well to build the capacity of the media and civil society organizations to effectively use the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act to hold all relevant agencies accountable in elections and the new realities of operating in the pandemic

The workshop is scheduled to hold between Tuesday September 22 and Wednesday September 23, 2020 at Grand Pela Hotel, Plot 649, Cadastral Zone, BO2,near American International School, Durunmi, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT)
